Fiji Cancer Society Pinktober

Fiji

Each year, Fiji records around 600 cases of cancer, with breast cancer being one of the five most commonly diagnosed types. This alarming statistic was at the heart of the Tanoa Hotel Group’s Pinktober program in Nadi, which we were proud to support and host.

Dr. James Fong, a leading medical expert in the community, addressed the common perception that a cancer diagnosis is a death sentence, urging the audience to focus on the importance of early detection.

Breast cancer, like many other cancers, is treatable if caught early, he emphasised.

Dr. Fong highlighted that the key to successful treatment lies in early diagnosis and stressed the need for greater community engagement to encourage regular check-ups. This message resonates deeply with the mission of the Pinktober campaign – to raise awareness and inspire proactive health measures.

Speaking from a personal perspective, Dr. Fong shared his own family’s experience with breast cancer. He revealed that many of his aunts had been diagnosed with breast cancer but avoided radiation or chemotherapy because their cases were detected at an early stage.

At the event, Kamini Reddy of the Reddy Group proudly presented a $10,000 cheque to the Fiji Cancer Society in support of their Pinktober Awareness campaign. The donation will help further the society's efforts to educate the public, provide screenings, and ensure that no woman faces breast cancer without the support and resources needed for early detection and treatment.

We are honored to support the Fiji Cancer Society in their mission to make early breast cancer detection a priority. Together, we can empower women to take control of their health and increase survival rates through early intervention.
